Sweetening the Big Apple

#1. Sweetening the Big Apple

Sweetening the Big Apple

Picture this. You're located in an weather-worn wooden chaise, indulging yourself with the most recent novel and a glass of Pinot Noir. Behind you stands a century old beach house. To your right is a thickly scented cedar grove. In front of you, tiny waves lap the side of a six foot dingy tethered to an old wooden dock. You see movement out of the projection of your eye and catch a discern of an oriole disappearing into the cedar trees. You discern out at the shore to see short-billed dowitches scurrying for supper. You look to your left, and the man you adore smiles back at you with rosy cheeks from wine bliss. Ahhhh...New York.

Sweetening the Big Apple

I work under the assumption that there is a petite New York in us all. Some love the city. I enjoy Nyc in short burst, but my main theorize for heading to New York has petite to do with Time Square. I am a nature loving, novel reading, wine drinking, bird watching soul. Since my popular petite Italy restaurant and my solace in the North Shore of Long Island are only a few hours from each other, this holiday makes for a excellent weeklong vacation blend.

Travel Suggestions: If you can, fly into New York on Jet Blue (www.jetblue.com). Not only do they have great prices, they have Tv, production it the only airline that make this part of the journey fun. Last time I flew into New York, I was disappointed when I had to deplane and miss the Conan O'Brian monologue.

Grab a cab for your hotel. Shuttles are cheaper if you voyage alone, but if you are a pair the cab is faster and an prominent part of your New York experience. Because the city is so well linked with transportation, pick your hotel based on budget. If you have the extra cash stay in Midtown Manhattan. If you want to conserve, stay in any good hotel on the west side of Central Park for a mixture of good rates and good neighborhoods.

Sure, you can pre-buy tickets for nearly all you need before your trip, but what is the fun in that? Your first day in New York, make the rounds. Buy a metro card for the subway. It's a bargain. If you want to do more sightseeing, buy tickets for the Red Bus. If you don't have a singular Broadway show in mind, stand in line in the center of Time square for some great bargains. Last time there we saw Urine Town for each.

Once you have done the Nyc thing, pick up your rental car and head east on Long Island. You'll take the whole day to voyage 120 miles, because once you are out of the city you will want to stop at every vegetable stand and winery, as well as do some "lunch and shop" in South Hampton. As much fun as this sounds, try to arrive at your beach house before nightfall, because it does get a petite dark out there once the sun sets.

Save the rest of the week for romance and easy-going day trips to historical port towns and astoundingly serene state parks. Or, just open other bottle of wine, sit in your weather-worn lounge, and watch an egret gracefully fly by.

Here Come the Holidays

--Restaurant Week Ny of Here Come the Holidays--

lowest price Here Come the Holidays

Here it is a week from Thanksgiving, and I am doing exactly what I do every year, and that is waiting until the very last moment to buy the makings for Thanksgiving. You would think that I would be more organized. Not a chance, I have been operating by a organizational shoestring for many years. Man yesterday, was sharing about how at their home, mixed nuts are set out during the long waiting period, one must experience for the turkey. That jogged a memory, my house had the same mixed nut bowl, with the petite shiny nutcrackers. I remember they were my Dad's beloved thing to do during the "Wait". I liked the walnuts and the pecans, those were in my opinion, the best nuts. I avoided at all costs the Brazilian nuts, and the filberts. petite did I know then that a filbert, was in fact, a hazelnut. I had no idea back then.

Here Come the Holidays

I have begun noticing that the fever is beginning to rise, the Thanksgiving fever. I was very proud of myself, I really bought pie crust early. Now, I know that some of you are scratching your heads and asking "why is a chef buying pie crust?" Well, it is easy, there is nothing wrong with it, and it tastes good. Pillsbury is a great company, and they take a lot of ill out of a hugely detailed dinner. The supermarkets are beginning to look a petite full, and the habitancy a petite less patient. Just as I all the time tell you, supermarkets are a socializing tool. I ran into my sister-in-law, my niece and nephew. It was really nice to see my niece, she is in her first year at Uvm in Burlington, Vermont. I remember these kids when they were like three years old, now they are driving and living on their own.

My sister-in-law has hit that "No more cooking wall", that is understandable. She has hosted a lot of parties in the red kitchen. I am not sure, how I will feel when my kids venture out on their own. Kinda scary to think, that I will not have a Thanksgiving mission. I have a tradition in my house, that on Thanksgiving and Christmas, I roll out the red carpeting for breakfast. This is hands down, my most beloved meal duration to cook. I conspiratorially loved it every holiday, when I was working in a restaurant. There something so awesome about plating the most visually exquisite Eggs Benedict, but I digress.

Since I favor Southern food (love ya Paula Deen;) ), I put in order a southern breakfast. Poached eggs, sausage gravy, fresh buttermilk biscuits, bacon, home fries cooked in liquid gold(bacon grease), grits and cinnamon rolls. After a spread like that, nobody is ready for food until about 4 or 5 pm. That is a sure fire way to keep the Turkey Skin Bandit out of your kitchen. Hey, men you know who you are?! I conception I would share my sausage gravy that I make religiously every Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is rich, savory and satisfying, just ask my family.

Sausage Gravy

1# Jimmy Dean Country Mild Sausage
1 onion diced finely
3 ozs butter
4 ozs Flour
1 cup chicken stock
3 cups milk
1 tsp butcher grind black pepper
1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage
1 tsp granulated garlic
1 tsp spicy mustard
few shakes hot sauce
salt to taste

In a saucepan cook the sausage until crumbly, add the diced onion and cook on low heat, until the onion is sweet smelling and translucent. Add the 3 ounces of butter and melt, add the flour and cook on low heat for a few minutes. Add the chicken stock and milk cook until the gravy is thickened. Season with black pepper, fresh sage, garlic, mustard, hot sauce and salt. Serve over fresh biscuits.

Surviving Hurricane Ike

--Restaurant Week Ny of Surviving Hurricane Ike--

my response Surviving Hurricane Ike

6 Hours after Impact

Surviving Hurricane Ike

I am writing this by candlelight, while I sit on the couch in my living room. We have no lights because a storm the size of Texas decided this would be a good direction for it to continue it's rampage. I can't do this in my bedroom because the top section of a 70 ft pine tree was hurled through my window, and even though I now have the extraordinary aroma of pine emanating through the house, it doesn't quite make up for the tree top and broken glass on my bed. Thanks to my daughter, I was in the living room with her when it happened. So, I guess you could say I owe her a big one.

24 Hours after Impact

We went by a friends house who had a generator, and were able to watch about 45 minutes of news before it ran out of gas. We saw Blackhawk helicopters flying over Galveston Island as part of the search and recovery effort. I even saw the remains of Murdoch's Souvenir shop, thirty years ago I bought my daughter a horseshoe crab there. Now, it's nothing but a pile of sticks.. The water surge that this storm pushed inland is verily incredible. They say in some areas it was 25 ft tall. Thousands of population ignored the evacuation orders, not realizing just how perilous this storm verily was. At this point we can only hope that most of them survived. As far as the Houston area goes, it looks like a war zone, with trees being thrown through houses and cars, and broken glass everywhere. The economic impact of this storm is going to be in the tens of billions.

The suffering becomes real when you have half a tank of gas, 23 bottles of water for the two of you, and you hear it could be 2 to 3 weeks before power is turned back on. We can already smell the food in the refrigerator. All of the gas stations ran out of gas Friday, and even if gas was delivered now, there is no electricity to pump it. These are the times when population find out what they are made of.

36 Hours after Impact

The rains are finally dying down, so the flow of water coming into my bedroom around the tree is finally about to stop. Roads are flooding everywhere, which is hampering recovery efforts. We have gone out through the surrounding neighborhoods to take pictures of the damage, which inspecting my gas situation, wasn't very smart, but I wanted my daughter to see how other population were coping with their misfortune. It was extraordinary how many population where out doing what they could, trying to cut the trees away from their houses with chainsaws, and raking debris from the storm sewers so the high waters could drain. I am proud to say we didn't see a tear or the look of despair anywhere. population were out just doing what they had to do. It would be easy to sit in a angle and cry, but there was a job to be done, and these population were doing it.

There is not a lot more to say at this time. We just heard on the radio that they found 3 more bodies in Galveston. That brings us to a total of 7 so far. The news also just announced that the landmark restaurant Brennan's burned to the ground. Would you believe I saved 2 paychecks to take my childhood sweetheart there for dinner. This is one disaster that managed to mix grief, shock, awe, and nostalgia , all in a 110 mile per hour, six hundred mile wide gumbo. We will grieve for the lost, and suffer what could be years of financial hardship because of this, but in the end, we will do what American have always done. Stand up, rebuild, and live out our lives with as much happiness and joy as we possibly can. Whatever less, and Ike wins.

Victory Gardens Redux

#1. Victory Gardens Redux

Victory Gardens Redux

In the 40's population planted in pots on the rooftops in New York City, in tiny spaces in the middle of houses in Philadelphia, in the backyard in Wilmington, N.C., and in farms all over the U.S.A. This was done out of necessity. The war had made everyone so aware that food was scarce and might come to be more so. No one wanted to go hungry so they grew what they could and hoarded as much as possible. population dug root cellars under their houses in Connecticut or made potato safes near the creek in North Carolina.

Victory Gardens Redux

Until recently, things like this seemed a hundred years in the past; never to return. In the past year, population have begun to think this way again. Gardens are springing up everywhere. Home Depot, Lowe's and Walmart all have large containers that can indubitably contain 6 vegetable plants such as peppers, onions, radishes or any collection of herbs. containers can also be used for tomato plants. Just leave room for staking or for a cage to hold the plant once it grows and starts producing. You can put your pots out in the yard, under the carport or on the porch. Just be clear they are in an open air area so that the bees can visit and pollinate your plants. Water your plants when they start to wilt. Test the soil with your finger and see if it is damp. If it is powdery, the plants need water.

During Wwii, this sort of organery was called a Victory Garden. Foods were rationed and population felt they were safer if they could supply their own food. Potato safes were beloved then, also. population dug out a spot in the earth and made a small cave. They made a door for easy access. After preparing the area, they filled it with potatoes. The climatic characteristic of the ground kept the potatoes in exquisite condition. During the rationing, they could use the potatoes to fill in their rationed foods.

In today's thrifty environment, population are beginning to think in the same fashion as During the war or depression. There are population today going so far as to hoard fuel. With today's fuel prices it may seem a good idea but unless you know what you are doing and have experienced premise of tanks and pumps this can be a big mistake. Hoarding fuel without devotee help is dangerous. Fuel is highly volatile. It isn't worth saving a few dollars just to have a spark from your cell phone blow up your house.

Many cities and towns are re-visiting their laws to allow small farm animals within the city limits. population fearing hikes in prices are beginning to keep chickens for eggs (and fried chicken, eventually), a cow or goat for milk, and other small farm animals that don't take up too much space. They are studying to use manure from chickens and the cows to fertilize their vegetables. population are again becoming farmers from need. Some large cities (Boston, Nyc) have taken areas that used to be vacant lots or parks that were not taken care of and allowed locals in the area to "farm" small plots of land. The "local farmers" get their furnish and fruit and have a weekly furnish market. Locals come and purchase their fresh items and the farmers have fresh furnish to take home to their families. Some even sell to local markets and restaurants.

Suggested Victory organery plantings
1. Tomatoes
2. Cucumbers
3. Squash
4. Bell peppers
5. Lettuce
6. Herbs

These plants can all be planted together without cross contamination. However, when planting items such as hot peppers, be clear not to plant them in the same soil. They can make your tomatoes a slight too spicy.

Victory Gardens can be a house project. Kids love to plant things and watch them grow. You can assign a small section or even just a few plants to your kids and challenge them to grow better plants than you do. You will be surprised at how contentious your kids can be when they think they can "out do" the parents.

So far, we don't need our Victory Gardens. Our market are still filled with furnish and we can still go to the local farmer's shop and get it fresh from the tree but what if our nation changes? In Russia and China, the population farm for the collective. Their farms were taken by imminent domain and are now owned by the government. The food is rationed by the government and the shelves in the market (which are also owned by the government) are not filled with products like here in the U.S. We have never worried about that here before but things have a way of changing when we least expect it. A slight Victory organery could be our own personal victory against rationing and hunger.

Do you know about - Should You Tip in Paris?

Restaurant Week In Nyc! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

Sitting at a cafe terrace in Paris, and watching citizen passing by while sipping on your Perrier water is not something you want to miss. But here comes the check, and with it the question: should I tip, and how much?

What I said. It is not outcome that the real about Restaurant Week In Nyc. You read this article for home elevators that want to know is Restaurant Week In Nyc.

How is Should You Tip in Paris?

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Restaurant Week In Nyc.

The check is all inclusive

Unlike in America, cafes and restaurants in Paris directly consist of a 15% assistance payment in your check. This is required by French law as tips are assessed for taxation purposes.

The 15% assistance payment is clearly itemized on your check, on top of the Vat tax (a French version of the sales tax). The words 'Service compris' (Tip included) indicate that the tip has already been included in the total to be paid.

The good news is that prices rated on the menus are all-inclusive: they consist of both the 15% tip and the sales tax. There is no last-minute unholy surprise when you are given your check. What you saw on the menu is what you get charged, no inexpressive extras.

No additional tipping?

A small extra-tip will be well received, of course. It is a way to show you liked how your waiter took care of you. This is not an enforcement though.

Small extra tips are also welcome because they go directly into your waiter's pockets. Often the 15% assistance payment goes to a coarse pot which is divided at the end of the day surrounded by all waiters. Some bar owners may also hold a part or the entirety of the assistance charge: French law does not want that assistance charges be given back to waiters. So your waiter might not even see a dime of it.

In any case, you are under no enforcement to extra tip. You paid your dues when you paid your check.

How much should the extra tip be?

Extra tips may range from just a integrate of Euro dimes for a coffee or a soft drink, to 1-5 euros for a lunch or dinner. A nice 'Thank You' is 5 to 10% of the total check. But once again, there is no obligation, and no steadfast rule as far as the division goes.

How do you tip elsewhere?

In many cases, tips are a principal earnings supplement for their recipients.

Take taxi drivers for instance: the median wage of a taxi driver employed by a cab firm is about Eur1,400 a month, which in Paris is more or less equivalent to a ,500 wage in Nyc. These guys put in 10 hours a day. Some years ago, they used to work 14-15 hours a day, 6 days a week, to make more income. French law forbids them to do so today. So they appreciate your tip all the way: 5-10% of your fare is a good rule of thumb.

At the theater, tip the lady usher: a integrate of euros is fine at the opera house [these ladies are also paid on the evening programs they sell], 50 euro cents is good at the movie theaters. Years ago, the lady ushers were not even paid by movie theater operators. They lived on tips only. Even if they are on a wage today, it is doubtful they earn more than the minimum wage.

At your hotel, your porter will appreciate a euro per bag.

At high-priced restaurants, classical concert venues, and discos, coat ladies commonly take care of your belongings. Tip them a euro per large item when you retrieve your coats.

At the museum, you may leave a integrate of euros to your guide if you went straight through a guided tour.

In summary

These are guidelines based on feel and custom. They are in no way a uniform code of conduct. These advices are also applicable elsewhere in France. In other French regions, where the proper of living is lower than in Paris, tips are even more construed as a mark of generosity.

In the final analysis, tipping is just that: a sign of your generosity and of your appreciation of the level of assistance you have just received.

Realize you are the foreigner and guest in Korea, so be respectful of its culture and people. It's quite common to let a man through a door before a woman or to be served food first - not all the time but sometimes. Also, when on a bus or subway the elderly section of each cart should stay empty, even if unoccupied. Remember to take your shoes off when entering a home or some restaurants. And bow your head slightly when saying hello.

Shed a few pounds

Ladies, and gents who are into losing weight, the first few weeks are glorious; you will begin to shed some pounds from the new change in diet. The food can be super wholesome compared to in the states - lots of steamed veggies, soups and spicy raw foods will genuinely clean your law out. Also, Korea is a huge great country, all things is on a hill. Many nights you might ask yourself if it's worth walking up a steep hill, but then you will realize your dorm or apartment is at the top.

Greetings and salutations

In a store or shop each person you make eye feel with will commonly say 'Ayoug-ha-seo,' (which means Hello/how are you). The store owner is assuming you will buy something. They commonly get frustrated with foreigners because we like to 'window shop' in boutiques. Also, If you are use to walking down the street and habitancy smiling, nodding their heads in recognition of you, or saying hello, don't look for it in Korea. Since there is no word for 'excuse me', they will push you if you're in the way (this is custom especially on subway trains). Also be ready for long stares, microscopic interaction or speech response--you are a close foreigner encounter. But there are many exceptions to the rule and some Koreans will be warm and inviting. Koreans are known to be very intimate with each other (friends hold hands, caress, and stand close) along with being very trustworthy and honest (leaving shop items out front of a store overnight).

Nothing is what is seems

Biting into what you would call 'pizza,' or 'steak' back home will be nothing more than an illusion in Korea. Mozzarella sticks are filled with a Velveeta-esque cheese version (this cheese can be found on pizza too). Steak is commonly Salisbury (like the kind from your H.S. Cafeteria). Pizza, a popular amongst children, commonly is filled with yellow corn, raw onions and no matter what you've ordered, will approximately all the time have sweet-potatoes smothered over it (this could also be a cause to sudden weight loss in Korea).

Best advice: Have fun

Like any situation make the best of it. Go out alone and find a new adventure each day: ride the subway to Sicheon, Iteawon, Dungdeamun, for shopping, go on a bus tour around Seoul ( Us all day), visit Joysea Buddhist temple or one of many palaces for the day, range a mall (Co-Ex Mall is just like any mall in the states), recognize the countryside, climb a mountain for remarkable views of the city, visit a cave, try a new food everyday, see a show (many Korean-adaption Broadway plays are available), watch a movie (which most are English Hollywood movies anyway), watch a primary dance performance while you dine, relax at one of the many spas (Fyi: spas with double-barber poles in the front are said to serve a microscopic more than massages), go to an incommunicable indie concert, sing karaoke at one of the many bars, or dance the night away in a rock, reggae or hip hop club (which are lots of fun and abundance of girl activity for you guys). The best part is the nightlife is open all night long.

Feeling blue

There are times you'll feel down about being so far away from home. It's common among English teachers, who miss some U.S. Holidays or birthdays back home, to celebrate with new friends while in Korea. Find a group of friends to hang with (Korean and foreign) because going out is very common and loads of fun. Exercise can also help with a sudden case of the blues. Finally, reading inspirational books, meditation and calling home helps to keep a good spirit.

Calling home

Call home, email or send post cards (about 0.25Us) at least 2-4 times a month to stay abreast with things at home. Don't overdue it because then you will come to be dependent on calling home. Koreans can recapitulate because some have traveled away from home to study English and understand your feelings. Note: Bring your laptop for Internet assistance and get a free catalogue with Sype for extremely cheap calls to the U.S. (less than 1 cent a min.)

How to know its time to leave

Well, hopefully you will cease out your contract, whether 1 month, 1 semester or 1 year. On some occasions you might come to be ill, or person at home is ill and need to leave; this is understandable. But, if you find yourself becoming disgruntled or negative about the culture and its people, then, its time to pack up and go home. One educator would permanently complain everyday about the school law being unorganized (which can happen), unfair and lazy employees and wild-behaved kids. Soon his argues would increase about Koreans in a generalized way. It was time for him to leave and he said so. He'd been a educator for 2 years and said it was time. What was funny about this educator is he had an Korean girlfriend.

Happy Endings

If you are from a big city, especially Nyc, Seoul will be a piece of cake. But if you are from the country living in a big city will take some getting use to. Be patience and have fun. everyday is an feel that you will learn and grow from. Take in Korea and all of its remarkable culture and it will take in you. recognize Korea and originate a happy ending to the next lesson in your life's journey.

Broadbeach - Gold Coast's In-Between

--Restaurant Week Ny of Broadbeach - Gold Coast's In-Between--

his response Broadbeach - Gold Coast's In-Between

Looking at the major destinations in Gold Coast, you might see a pattern. People and guides regularly tell Gold Coast attractions as either industrialized (like the famed Surfers Paradise) or not quite industrialized (as the equally known Palm Beach). However, the suburbs in the city are not divided that easily. There are also destinations like Broadbeach that can be defined as industrialized yet relaxed, popular yet not as crowded as other destinations in the city.

Broadbeach - Gold Coast's In-Between

Broadbeach, needless to say, is often regarded as the best alternative to Surfers Paradise. Admittedly, Surfers Paradise is known as the night life central of the city, what with its numerous bars and clubs. It is also a major Schoolies Week destination. But Broadbeach does have some equally phenomenal attractions as well and it attracts a steady and impressive whole of tourists too. In fact, there are a whole of attractions in the area that cannot be found elsewhere.

One of them is the Pacific Fair, the largest shopping destination in Queensland. Open every day, it offers more than 200 stores, play areas for kids, cinemas, and a considerable whole of restaurants-easily an all-in-one place where you can get and do everything! The Oasis Shopping center is also one of the major shopping places in the district. The whole of malls in Broadbeach makes it an equally competent shopping mecca for People in Gold Coast.

Another unique Broadbeach attraction is the Conrad Jupiters Casino, already carefully as a local landmark not only for the casinos but also because of the pubs, bars, and restaurant within the casino premises. Through a monorail, visitors can reach the casino from the Oasis Shopping Center. The casino offers a whole of games, from Blackjack to Roulette, from the Jupiters 1 (a inequity of the card game Spanish 21). To the Caribbean Stud Poker, among many others.

But a Gold Coast destination wouldn't be perfect without one showcasing the attractiveness of the city. Cascade Gardens, a great sanctuary, proves to be Broadbeach's gem of a natural wonder. It picnic areas, playgrounds, and a barbeque place for those moments when you plainly want to sit down and relax, and maybe enjoy an authentic Australian barbeque or too. You can also play golf at the Lakeland Golf Club, really one of the best golf courses in the country. With a background like Broadbeach, how couldn't it be one of the best in Australia?

Truly, Broadbeach serves as the in between for People who want enjoy both natural wonders and modern day amenities.

More About the hidden society of Why - Nicole's Story

Members of the secret community of Why are drawn to each with an irresistible pull. Maybe it's because in the "real world", we're surrounded by citizen living in a state of comfortable misery - unhappy adequate to complain but not adequate to do anything about it.

More About the hidden society of Why - Nicole's Story

When you move out of comfortable misery and into the secret community of Why, you come to be willing to ask Why and you stop accepting, "because that's just the way it is," as an answer.

I was filming a short inspirational video for the Internet, and the miniature I met the producer, Nicole, I knew I had found an additional one member of the secret community of Why.

Not only did she right away put me at ease and bring out the best in me, we had such an amazing connection that I wholly forgot I was on camera. The blaring lights faded and the other citizen in the room disappeared.

And the natural, conversation we were having immediately got to the heart of my passion and my message. So I got a great video, but there was more.

Unbeknownst to me, while I was telling my personal story about how I'd mapped out and then created my ideal work life, the wheels were turning inside Nicole's head. When she probed deeper about how I'd gotten where I am and what advice I have for person who is mental about change, she was listening from a very personal place. Nicole and I were on parallel journeys.

I was drawn to connect with Nicole again, and when I recently visited New York, we arranged to meet. That's when I discovered how strong the connection had been for her.

Within five minutes of sitting down with Nicole for dinner, it was like speaking to a long lost friend. As I heard her story, I discovered how she had found her place in the secret community of Why.

She was the only child of immigrant parents from the Philippines, she grew up in San Diego, and attended university in San Francisco. After she graduated, she moved to New York, giving herself two weeks to "make it." By building a prosperous run in advertising and television, she's thrived in Nyc for approximately 10 years.

She told me that while she's had every kind of success by exterior standards, a deep need wasn't being met.

So she left it all.

She had always wanted to honor her Filipino heritage, and she decided to open up a Filipino bistro in New York City.

Nicole told me that a turning point for her was hearing a friend's outgoing voicemail message, which identified her by name as well as by expert title. Nicole knew that she was more than any title; life is about more than titles.

Her friends and business contacts think she's quite crazy. New York City is an highly costly city, she'll need to raise a mountainous estimate of capital, and she doesn't know how any of that will happen.

Ah-hah.

She doesn't know how it will happen, but she assuredly knows Why it's so leading for her to make it happen. And she knows all things else will fall into place if she just keeps going.

So she's working long, hard hours in person else's restaurant, studying the business and meeting lots of other citizen whose hearts are for real in what they're doing. They don't have titles, but they know Why they're there.

Being true to yourself is a hard thing to do. In a way, Nicole is repeating the test she gave herself when she first arrived in New York City, approximately ten years ago.

We talked for three hours that day, and we could have talked more. And we will. My wife and I already have plans to attend the grand chance of Nicole's bistro next year.

Members of the secret community of Why need these connections. And these are not accidental meetings. We find each other and we will continue to find each other. We need to inequity our journey through a world full of citizen who don't quite "get" how we're choosing to live. Who ask us, "How will you do that?" instead of listening to Why we're doing it.

I was a miniature freaked out by the strong pull I felt towards Nicole, by our immediate and deep connection, by the sense that we would meet again. And as I often tell my coach, Lissa, I'm getting comfortable with getting freaked out.

What's the Biggest condition Goal You Ever Set For Yourself? Half Marathon For an Amateur

#1. What's the Biggest condition Goal You Ever Set For Yourself? Half Marathon For an Amateur

What's the Biggest condition Goal You Ever Set For Yourself? Half Marathon For an Amateur

What's the Biggest health Goal You Ever Set For Yourself? How about running a Half Marathon for a someone who has never run more than a 5k.

What's the Biggest condition Goal You Ever Set For Yourself? Half Marathon For an Amateur

One thing I just learned recently is that I am capable of much more than I idea I was. I don't particularly love running and until recently the farthest I ever ran in my life was a 5k. It's all relative. At one time, halfway nearby the block without stopping was a big accomplishment, then running a mile, ultimately I worked up to a 5k. I ran a 5k each year for charity. It was for cancer research. When I run for a cause like cancer, I find I can focus and channel any pain or hurt to gain power by mental about how my pain pales in comparison to anything someone with cancer ever went through. When I'm just running to run, I have a much harder time.

So how did I go from a 5k to 13.1 miles. Well, my best friend is a runner and I am driven. So, when she asked me if I would run it with her, I made a commitment and with one conversation, it was done. The line was drawn in the sand. It was out there. There was no turning back. Did I think I could do it? Are you kidding me? No way. Was I going to do it come hell or high water? Absolutely!! And so the journey began. I printed out the training schedules and said there is no way I'm going to run 4 or 5 days a week. Fortunately, for me, I go to a very aggressive gym that does team personal training in a strength, cross-training, durability style so I wasn't as bad off as one might think.

Then came February and a bit of a monkey wrench. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I was put out of work on disability. Symptoms included ultimate tiredness, short term memory loss, blurring and depression. Not exactly the best situation for training for a half marathon. Motivation was not at the top of my list. Lying on my couch was. By mid-April, I returned to work on a part-time basis, but I was surely wiped by the end of the day. The race date was quickly windup in on June 27.

The pressure was on and time was ticking down. I idea I'd be okay because I control well under pressure. I ran a few long distance runs with my best friend to try and prepare, but addition my mileage quickly caused me an injury by the end of May. With less than a month to go, I was no longer able to train on the road. I had injured my It Band which is the ligament which goes down the side of your thigh down to your knee. It can rub against the bones of your knee and cause excruciating pain. I couldn't run on the pavement anymore because it exacerbated it. I was forced inside to the treadmill. My biggest challenge in running is unblemished boredom. Luckily I had a good treadmill.

During my final week, I had 3 visits to the chiropractor to make sure I was in the best inherent alignment. On June 26, I was off to Boston. No turning back now. I had nervous excitement. My anxiety about whether I would terminate the race had now been fueled by my contentious nature. It was no longer about just finishing it was about finishing strong and with a good, no maybe great time. I'd never even trained with a 10 slight mile, but I idea my adrenaline might carry me straight through and I could hit my stretch goal of 2 hours and 10 minutes. At 4am, I woke up ready to go. I fueled up with my new best friend, Gu Octane (carbs plus a slight caffeine for good measure). Race time was 6:15am. We arrived at the race just in time to use the restroom, pin on our bibs and range aimlessly for a few minutes in nervous anticipation.

We got in the 9 slight mile section in the hopes of breaking out of the congestion quickly. I knew the adrenaline was going to inaugurate me like a rocket, but my third song on my Ipod was all set to calm me down a bit. Good thing too because surprisingly, my first mile was in just over 8 minutes! After the second mile, my best friend and her boyfriend gradually pulled away as I anticipated. For about the first 5-6 miles I had a pretty good buffer. I was well under a 10 slight mile despite many provocative hills. Did I mention the procedure was uphill? Here's where things went wrong. Hills don't go well with an It Band injury. What goes up must come down, right? Not necessarily in this case. It was killer. My knees started hurting pretty badly. I tried making some adjustments in my compression bands that I was wearing. It helped a little, but I had over 7 miles to go. People who had run halves before said they had never run a procedure like this. Now let's get into what surely made it interesting. At the second water stop, they ran out of cups. Fantasize 3500 People running to the table dying of thirst and volunteers frantically throwing gallon jugs at the runners. I have a bit of a germ phobia so I had 2 options. One, pour the water from the jug and risk getting water up my nose or the selection I chose....fish nearby for cups on the ground for used cups and fill my own cups with water. I lost a lot of time between mile 6 and 8 on the hills, and I'm sure that the lengthy water stops didn't help. However, the best was yet to come. After mile 8, I was on fire! I ran in an all out sprint. It felt surely amazing!! Unfortunately, somewhere after mile 9, I was faced with more hills followed by a slight break, but mile 10.5 straight through 12 was level up. On my way up the hill, walking and running, in excruciating pain in my legs, I hooked up with a guy that was running my pace. We couldn't say much at that point, but we were able to institute that we had both only run 5ks, only run 8 miles prior to that day, and that it was much easier running with someone. We decided we would terminate together. With no names at that point, the two of us with a tasteless goal, banded together encouraging each other to make it to that long awaited terminate line without stopping. With one mile left to go two friends/spectators came to cheer me on an help give me that last burst of energy, but nothing was going to give me any burst at this point except crossing the terminate line.

At 2 hours 14 minutes, I crossed the terminate line. With provocative hills, an injury, sub par water stops, and a brief restroom break, I still closed at an staggering 10 slight 20 second pace. I was ecstatic! It was such a great accomplishment. I'm proud to say my best friend who is an avid runner closed in 2 hours and 1 slight and will probably go on to run full marathons. For me, I proudly wore my medal as I ate my morning meal in a bistro in Boston. The numbers 13.1 mean something that I never idea it would before. I have a brother who has run the Boston and Nyc marathon. I have other brother who has done 2 Ironmans in his forties. Does that minimize what I did? surely not! Why because as I said in the beginning, it's all relative. This was my stretch goal and I closed it. I made myself and my children proud. And in life, isn't that what it's all about?

Panic attack Symptoms and Causes

--Restaurant Week Ny of Panic attack Symptoms and Causes--

a fantastic read Panic attack Symptoms and Causes

It can be very difficult to illustrate to another person the shear terror that you can taste when having a panic attack, and it can also feel like you are wholly alone and have no one to turn to. Fortunately you are not, and you should know that many population have dealt with and continue to deal with issues of anxiety; together with the kind of communal anxiety that can cause a panic attack to happen.

Panic attack Symptoms and Causes

Because of their greatest symptoms on the person who is experiencing them, many population mistake an anxiety attack as not only just a heart attack but also a reasoning breakdown.

It is neither of those, but in fact a build up of elements that you can be experiencing which can trigger the consequent an episode of reasoning and corporeal panic.

Common Panic attack Symptoms

There are many symptoms that population can taste when having some form of an anxiety attack, but usually it is a aggregate of things. Below is a list of any estimate of corporeal sensations or thoughts and feelings that can join to make the world feel like it is windup in nearby you.

dizziness shortness of breath rapid heart beat increased sweating weak sensation in knees thoughts of total despair hyperventilation increase in pulse the desperate need to flee a situation negative reasoning towards own mortality shaking blurring of vision feeling detached from yourself or others Noticeable pressure in the head feeling very hot numbness tingling tightening of muscles pain in chest

There are also many more symptoms that a person can taste in their own situation, but as you can see from seeing over those list that these conditions can make a person feel as though they may be having a heart attack when they are absolutely not.

What Causes Anxiety and Panic Attacks?

There are a estimate of factors that can lead to this kind of episode. Many population will taste these types of feelings right after having gone through something very epic in their life.

Going through a major life's convert such as a stressful occupation change, adjustment to post college life, or losing person who you loved very dearly can cause these instances to pop up later.

However, many population deal with anxiety on a day to day basis for years and are quite customary with having a panic attack from time to time.

Social stress is a big one. I personally dealt with this for many years and had to find ways to gently clear it away. I would get out in a communal situation that would suddenly feel splendid to me and would have to disappear into a bathroom or some place private before I could accumulate control.

A very tasteless qoute that comes from having previously had a panic attack is the fear of having another one, especially in a situation or environment where you know that you could be vulnerable, and for many population this can be the estimate one trigger of an anxiety attack.

Yes, anything can psych themselves into having a break down out in the open, and the lively thing about this is that it can happen very quickly. In fact, many attacks come up fast within about ten seconds, and the symptoms start stacking on fast to the point where a person experiencing this can become disconnected with everything and feel as though they have lost control over themselves and basic functions of their body and mind.

What Can Be Done?

For some population it has taken years to find something that works for them, while others find a explication quite easily.

I personally, strongly believe in maintaining a equilibrium which does take practice. One qoute that many of us have is that we do not have an flee from ourselves nor our lives.

It is very prominent to separate yourself from work, and time and time again it has been shown that poor sleep can greatly agitate these problems.

The health Elements

Sleep, good nutrition and expression of body and soul are very important. One recommendation that I will make is to find some form of exercising that is slow lively and puts extra emphasis on allowable breathing.

Exercises

Yoga and Tai Chi are excellent for this. Some population might think that this isn't the riposte to their problem, but because breathing is a basic human function, we forget about it and neglect it. If you start consciously focusing on your breathing more, you will observation just how shallow it is probably going to be in the beginning. Its prominent to rehearsal those lungs which feed oxygine to the brain, which can help trigger the publish of prominent inhibitors and nuero-inhibitors.

Supplements

Its also very prominent to educate yourself about supplements as they can help you equilibrium everything.

Calcium tablets, magnesium and most importantly - vitamin D will not only help you sleep, but keep your mind
stable. There are also things that you can take if you don't wish to get involved with a Ssri anti-depressant,
such as L-tyrosine and Gaba, which can be found at any health food store.

Do not be afraid to ask the clerks openly about what things you can take, because these population are usually quite knowledgeable, and that helped me educate myself a lot as well.

Dealing With communal Situations

This is something that no doubt terrifies a lot of people. Becoming comfortable in communal situations and beating panic attack episodes can be done however.

Its prominent that you take baby steps when doing this as not to overwhelm yourself. Though it may seem like a cop-out answer, its absolutely not, as these are things that I had done to help myself as well.

Start small by being with people, without having to interact with them on a grand scale too soon. A walk in the park, or going for a walk on a bike path is good exercise, good breathing, and healthy smiles as a stranger passes with no stress.

Then, as you make a weekly habit of doing something small like this, try your best to add on something else. Get a friend or a loved one to go with you to a restaurant that is not too loud or busy.

A movie theater on a week day is also a good way to not be stressed out by too many people, but still get that communal interaction.

A writing group or any kind of small meet up group would be a possible next step, as you would be surprised at how many population are production this journey with you by using this outlet.

It takes work. There are times when you don't want to get into your car, don't want to be seen or see anyone, but you have to nudge yourself a little, and finally its prominent to not rely on a "safe person" to go with.

I can't tell you how many inspirational population that I have seen grow themselves over time in this way, who no longer deal with any kind of panic attack symptoms or communal anxiety, are always relaxed when meeting new population and have found a deeper love for themselves and have made strong connections with others.

This results in not feeling alone anymore, and I can speak from personal experience, that this my friend is well worth the small steps.

I already lived in Beckley, West Virginia and I did not like living in the mountains, so a summer working and spending my relaxation time by the ocean was the easy winner without a doubt!

What I said. It is not outcome that the true about Restaurant Week Nyc. You read this article for information about that need to know is Restaurant Week Nyc.

How is Virginia Beach, My Longest Vacation

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Restaurant Week Nyc.

My husband, an elementary school educator was fine with my choice. Our three children were excited too. I swiftly began finding for a summer rental and found a furnished condo several blocks from the oceanfront. Quickly, we placed into our "work - play" routine. Of course, we did the typical tourist things like para sailing, cruising the board walk, enjoying the entertainment up and down Atlantic Avenue, all of which, was free. On Wednesday and Sunday nights the city provided a fireworks show at 10:00 Pm that drew "ooohs" and "ahhhs" and applause from all who viewed it.

As the summer days melted away, I found my routine changing from "accidental tourist" to "local resident." I was able to help the befuddled tourist find their way around and recommend the best restaurants where the local residents ate. I became friends with the employees at the fresh seafood shop and the post office employees greeted me by name. As the time drew closer to pack up and return to the mountains and another cold, grey and snowy winter, I tried to fill every occasion with my newfound beach lifestyle.

The following summer I requested to work in Virginia Beach again. This summer I talked my husband into a annual rental of a small beach house only two blocks from the ocean. It was one of the former beach cottages, full of charm and a quirky character. My husband was not keen on the annual agreement, but my determination won out in the end. We arrived, our van loaded with the basic household necessities, a small black "pound puppy" named Buddy and three excited kids. Quickly, we roamed the thrift shops in crusade of basic furnishings to get us by for the advent year.

I was in my element! After a day of working, I would walk straight through the door and immediately turn into shorts, t-shirt and a matching pair of flip flops purchased from Old Navy. My flip flop collection was far larger than my dress shoes, and far more comfortable! I learned new ways to prepare the different varieties of seafood from the clerks at the seafood market. Spreading out newspaper and dumping freshly steamed crab legs over the table was a feast hard to beat! A few small bowls of melted butter with Old Bay, an icy cold beer and sweet iced tea along with a roll or two of paper towels competed the setting. We would all sit around the table, cracking crab legs, butter dripping from our chins and share stories of our day.

My husband was nearing the point where he could retire from teaching and our youngest was close to beginning high school. By the end of the summer the decision was made that he would enroll at the Middle school in order to prepare him for the transition to high school. My husband would terminate his year teaching in Wv and he, our son and I would take turns driving to and from the beach to West Virginia and vice versa every other weekend. Every trip to West Virginia I would load up a few small pieces of furniture and a few more of our belongings to take up residency in "our miniature beach house" as I lovingly named it.

That was ten years ago. My husband is now retired. It took him a miniature longer to terminate out his retirement, so it was just our son and myself with our long distance visits. Our house in West Virginia is listed for sale, but rented for the time being. We have moved from 27th street to 5th street and live in a condo that has a lot more room just over the street from the ocean! We are getting ready to move all remaining in storehouse to the beach. Just the other weekend our grand children were visiting and I woke them up to go watch the "sun wake up." I threw on my t-shirt and shorts and of course, matching flip flops, and stuck two sippy cups in the pockets of my shorts and keeping the two small hands of a 2 and 3 year old clad in their character pajamas and somehow a Woody doll and a miniature panda bear, we crossed the street and sat in the sand in total awe as the sun rose over the gorgeous Atlantic Ocean. Gulls flew overhead and several large fishing boats cut straight through the waves carrying tourist out to spend the day making memories. Joggers were out, as well as cyclist, getting in their exercise. I watched the ocean front "wake up" straight through the eyes of my grand children. A memory I will forever cherish.

Yes, I Love Virginia Beach! It is the largest city in the state of Virginia. I find it to be a two-part city. The city itself with all of the assorted communities, and then the ocean front. It is a city filled with citizen from every field of the military. You will find citizen from all over the world that now call Virginia Beach "home", as well as this gal who has lived in Arlington and Fairfax, Va, North Carolina, New York and West Virginia. I am finally "home".

The atmosphere is overwhelming if you like very miniature snow and mild winters. I have lived here straight through one hurricane, but it doesn't compare to the fear of hunkering down wondering if a tornado is going to flatten your home! It can get pretty hot in the summer, but usually, for a few weeks would you deem it "unbearable". Summer storms can blow up quickly, yet blow out to sea just as fast. Fall is pleasant with temperatures in the 70's to low 80's. There all the time seems to be a festival or event going on close by in every season. Any kind or collection of food is available and the farmers shop is one of the finest I've ever shopped at. The schools are great, there are colleges and technical schools that teach any field you would want to learn. Recreation centers with low annual membership fees and did I mention they cater to all ages and have swimming pools and rock climbing walls and amenities too numerous to mention! Spas, a good massage, or a fine cup of coffee, all can be found around approximately every corner. State parks, amusement parks, childrens entertainment and concert venues abound.

One of the best decisions I've ever made was to make Virginia Beach my home. The best "work-vacation" I ever made was to make Virginia beach the destination. Is it perfect? I guess that depends on your definition of perfect. Yes, there are a few things I'd turn to suit my taste, but thorough it's about as close to perfection as you can get. If you miss the snow and top notch skiing, hop on a plane from the Norfolk International airport and head out West for the slopes. If you are in the mood for a Broadway show and it doesn't happen to be advent to Chrysler Hall, which is nearby, take a plane to Nyc. You can come and go to in any place from right here!

Yes, I'm sold on Virginia Beach, Virginia. Try us out sometime. You never know, we might just end up neighbors!

Come for a visit, or stay for a lifetime you'll love it!

30 Days to Success

--Restaurant Week Ny of 30 Days to Success--

go here 30 Days to Success

A powerful personal increase tool is the 30-day trial. This is a belief I borrowed from the shareware industry, where you can download a trial version of a piece of software and try it out risk-free for 30 days before you're required to buy the full version. It's also a great way to originate new habits, and best of all, it's brain-dead simple.

30 Days to Success

Let's say you want to start a new habit like an exercise schedule or quit a bad habit like sucking on cancer sticks. We all know that getting started and sticking with the new habit for a few weeks is the hard part. Once you've overcome inertia, it's much easier to keep going.

Yet we often psyche ourselves out of getting started by mentally thinking about the change as something permanent -- before we've even begun. It seems too breathtaking to think about development a big change and sticking with it every day for the rest of your life when you're still habituated to doing the opposite. The more you think about the change as something permanent, the more you stay put.

But what if you belief about development the change only temporarily -- say for 30 days -- and then you're free to go back to your old habits? That doesn't seem so hard anymore. exercise daily for just 30 days, then quit. Assert a neatly organized desk for 30 days, then slack off. Read for an hour a day for 30 days, then go back to watching Tv.

Could you do it? It still requires a bit of discipline and commitment, but not nearly so much as development a permanent change. Any perceived deprivation is only temporary. You can count down the days to freedom. And for at least 30 days, you'll gain some benefit. It's not so bad. You can handle it. It's only one month out of your life.

Now if you unquestionably unblemished a 30-day trial, what's going to happen? First, you'll go far adequate to originate it as a habit, and it will be easier to Assert than it was to begin it. Secondly, you'll break the addiction of your old habit while this time. Thirdly, you'll have 30 days of success behind you, which will give you greater confidence that you can continue. And fourthly, you'll gain 30 days worth of results, which will give you practical feedback on what you can expect if you continue, putting you in a better place to make informed long-term decisions.

Therefore, once you hit the end of the 30-day trial, your potential to make the habit permanent is vastly increased. But even if you aren't ready to make it permanent, you can opt to expand your trial duration to 60 or 90 days. The longer you go with the trial period, the easier it will be to lock in the new habit for life.

Another advantage of this approach is that you can use it to test new habits where you unquestionably aren't sure if you'd even want to continue for life. Maybe you'd like to try a new diet, but you don't know if you'd find it too restrictive. In that case, do a 30-day trial and then re-evaluate. There's no shame in stopping if you know the new habit doesn't suit you. It's like trying a piece of shareware for 30 days and then uninstalling it if it doesn't suit your needs. No harm, no foul.

Here are some examples from my own life where I used 30-day trials to originate new habits:

1) In the Summer of 1993, I wanted to try being vegetarian. I had no interest in development this a lifelong change, but I'd read a lot about the health benefits of vegetarianism, so I committed to it for 30 days just for the experience. I was already exercising regularly, seemed in decent health, and was not overweight (6′0″, 155 lbs), but my typical college diet included a lot of In-N-Out burgers. Going lacto-ovo vegetarian for 30 days was a lot easier than I incredible -- I can't say it was hard at all, and I never felt deprived. Within a week I noticed an increase in my energy and concentration, and I felt more clear-headed. At the end of the 30 days, it was a no-brainer to stick with it. This change looked a lot harder than it unquestionably was.

2) In January 1997, I decided to try going from vegetarian to vegan. While lacto-ovo vegetarians can eat eggs and dairy, vegans don't eat whatever that comes from an animal. I was developing an interest in going vegan for life, but I didn't think I could do it. How could I give up veggie-cheese omelettes? The diet seemed too restrictive to me -- even fanatically so. But I was intensely intelligent to know what it was unquestionably like. So once again I did a 30-day trial. At the time I figured I'd make it through the trial, but I unquestionably didn't expect to continue beyond that. Well, I lost seven pounds in the first week, mostly from going to the bathroom as all the accumulated dairy mucus was cleansed from my bowels (now I know why cows need four stomachs to properly dispell this stuff). I felt lousy the first combine days but then my energy surged. I also felt more clear-headed than ever, as if a "fog of brain" had been lifted; it felt like my brain had gotten a Cpu and a Ram upgrade. However, the biggest change I noticed was in my endurance. I was living in Marina del Rey at the time and used to run along the beach near the Santa Monica Pier, and I noticed I wasn't as tired after my usual 3-mile runs, so I started addition them to 5 miles, 10 miles, and then ultimately a marathon a few years later. In Tae Kwon Do, the extra stamina unquestionably gave a boost to my sparring skills as well. The accumulated benefits were so great that the foods I was giving up just didn't seem so intelligent anymore. So once again it was a no-brainer to continue after the first 30 days, and I'm still vegan today. What I didn't expect was that after so long on this diet, the old animal goods foods I used to eat just don't seem like food anymore, so there's no feeling of deprivation.

3) Also in 1997, I decided I wanted to exercise every particular day for a year. That was my 1997 New Year's resolution. My criteria was that I would exercise aerobically at least 25 minutes every day, and I wouldn't count Tae Kwon Do classes which I was taking 2-3 days per week. Coupled with my dietary changes, I wanted to push my fitness to a new level. I didn't want to miss a particular day, not even for sick days. But thinking about exercising 365 days in a row was daunting, so I mentally began with a 30-day trial. That wasn't so bad. After a while every day that passed set a new record: 8 days in a row... 10 days... 15 days.... It became harder to quit. After 30 days in a row, how could I not do 31 and set a new personal record? And can you imagine giving up after 250 days? No way. After the initial month to originate the habit, the rest of the year took care of itself. I remember going to a consulation that year and getting home well after midnight. I had a cold and was unquestionably tired, yet I still went out running at 2am in the rain. Some people might call that foolish, but I was so determined to reach my goal that I wasn't going to let fatigue or illness stop me. I succeeded and kept it up for the whole year without ever missing a day. In fact, I kept going for a few more weeks into 1998 before I ultimately opted to stop, which was a tough decision. I wanted to do this for one year, knowing it would come to be a powerful reference experience, and it unquestionably became such.

4) More diet stuff.... After being vegan for a whole of years, I opted to try other variations of the vegan diet. I did 30-day trials both with the macrobiotic diet and with the raw foods diet. Those were intelligent and gave me new insights, but I decided not to continue with either of them. I felt no separate eating macrobiotically than I did otherwise. And in the case of the raw diet, while I did consideration a essential energy boost, I found the diet too labor intensive -- I was spending a lot of time making ready meals and shopping frequently. Sure you can just eat raw fruits and veggies, but to make intelligent raw meals, there can be a lot of labor involved. If I had my own chef, I'd probably corollary the raw diet though because I think the benefits would be worth it. I did a second trial of the raw diet for 45 days, but again my conclusion was the same. If I was ever diagnosed with a serious disease like cancer, I'd immediately switch to an all raw, living foods diet, since I believe it to be the absolute best diet for optimal health. I've never felt more energetic in my life than when I ate a raw diet. But I had a hard time development it practical for me. Even so, I managed to combine some new macrobiotic foods and raw foods into my diet after these trials. There are two all-raw restaurants here in Vegas, and I've enjoyed eating at them because then man else does all the labor. So these 30-day trials were still prosperous in that they produced new insights, although in both cases I intentionally declined to continue with the new habit. One of the reasons a full 30-day trial is so foremost with new diets is that the first week or two will often be spent detoxing and overcoming cravings, so it isn't until the third or fourth week that you begin to get a clear picture. I feel that if you haven't tried a diet for at least 30 days, you simply don't understand it. Every diet feels separate on the inside than it appears from the outside.

This 30-day recipe seems to work best for daily habits. I've had no luck using it when trying to start a habit that only occurs 3-4 days per week. However, it can work well if you apply it daily for the first 30 days and then cut back thereafter. This is what I'd do when beginning a new exercise program, for example. Daily habits are much easier to establish.

Here are some other ideas for applying 30-day trials:

* Give up Tv. Tape all your favorite shows and save them until the end of the trial. My whole house did this once, and it was very enlightening.

* Give up online forums, especially if you feel you're becoming forum addicted. This will help break the addiction and give you a clearer sense of how participation unquestionably benefits you (if at all). You can all the time catch up at the end of 30 days.

* Shower/bathe/shave every day. I know You don't need this one, so please pass it along to man who does.

* Meet man new every day. Start up a conversation with a stranger.

* Go out every evening. Go somewhere separate each time, and do something fun -- this will be a memorable month.

* Spend 30 minutes cleaning up and organizing your home or office every day. That's 15 hours total.

* List something new to sell on eBay every day. Purge some of that clutter.

* Ask man new out on a date every day. Unless your success rate is below 3%, you'll get at least one new date, maybe even meet your time to come spouse.

* If you're already in a relationship, give your partner a massage every day. Or offer to alternate who gives the massage each day, so that's 15 massages each.

* Give up cigarettes, soda, junk food, coffee, or other addictions.

* Go to bed early, and get up at 5am every day.

* Write in your journal every day.

* Call a separate house member, friend, or enterprise perceive every day.

* Make 25 sales calls every day to solicit new business. Professional speaker Mike Ferry did this five days a week for two years, even on days when he was giving seminars. He toll this habit with helping build his enterprise to over million in yearly sales. If you make 1300 sales calls a year, you're going to get some decent enterprise no matter how bad your sales skills are. You can generalize this habit to any kind of marketing work, like building new links to your web site.

* Write a new blog entry every day.

* Read for an hour a day on a field that interests you.

* Meditate every day.

* Learn a new vocabulary word every day.

* Go for a long walk every day.

Again, don't think that you need to continue any of these habits beyond 30 days. Think of the benefits you'll gain from those 30 days alone. You can re-assess after the trial period. You're clear to grow just from the experience, even if it's temporary.

The power of this approach lies in its simplicity. Even though doing a clear operation every particular day may be less effective than following a more involved schedule -- weight training is a good example because adequate rest is a key component -- you'll often be more likely to stick with the daily habit. When you commit to doing something every particular day without exception, you can't rationalize or explain missing a day, nor can you promise to make it up later by reshuffling your schedule.

Give trials a try. If you're ready to commit to one right now, please feel free to post a commentary and share your goal for the next 30 days. If there's adequate interest, then maybe we can do a group postmortem colse to May 20th to see how it went for everyone. I'll even do it with you. Mine will be to go running or biking for at least 25 minutes or do a minimum 60-minute hike in the mountains every day for 30 days. The weather here in Vegas has been great lately, so it's a nice time for me to get back to exercising outdoors.

Turning Thirty in the City

#1. Turning Thirty in the City

Turning Thirty in the City

As you wave goodbye to your twenties and enter a new phase in life you come face to face with one of life's great questions: How will you celebrate your 30th birthday? Let's face it - it's not like any other party, it's not like any other year. This Nyc birthday party has to be special. Here are some ideas to give it the sophistication it deserves.

Turning Thirty in the City

Say Bon trip to your twenties-literally! A amazing way to celebrate a New York birthday is with a cruise nearby the city itself. For just per man you can hop on board a party boat. With a Dj, two dance floors and two drinks included in the price you naturally can't beat The City Lights Cruise. If you have a large party of 100 people you surely can have the yacht all to yourselves.

You could also opt to stay ashore and go with a maritime theme at The 79th road Boat Basin Café which is excellent for day-time birthday parties in New York City while the spring and summer.

Turning thirty is a huge step in your adult life. Possibly one of the most fun and whimsical ways to celebrate is with a childhood theme. A great place to make this happen is Alice's Tea Cup, an adorable teahouse with three New York Locations. This whimsical Alice in Wonderland themed cafeteria has an amazing variety of teas (I suggest the Jasmine with rose petals) and tiers of dessert as well as a full menu. Most importantly they serve yummy tea themed ultra fresh cocktails. All the locations have party rooms and can accommodate large parties. If tea isn't your thing and you're more into ice cream there is all the time childhood favorite: Serendipity 3. It's a great place for an ice cream social!

If you would rather have a girls night in you can all the time call on The Spa Chicks. They are a service that does in home spa services for parties and events. You can also add their services to a larger secret event. The Spa chicks don't stop at spa services they also can provide a secret chef, gift bags, personalized robes and slippers, an oxygen bar and even chocolate tastings.

If you want to get nostalgic you can sing the most hits of your youth at settlement Karaoke. This place has 14 secret rooms where you can sing your heart out privately. The rooms accommodate anywhere from 2 to 25 guests. Other great aspect of this New York staple is that they modernize their song list every week. They have everything from top 40 hits to 80's hair bands. You name it - it's probably on their list.

Regardless of where you spend your 30th birthday in New York, it's all about surrounding yourself with great friends, good music and a party to match. The big 3-0 isn't just a general party it's a milestone and you deserve to have a memorable night. We'll leave the spontaneity to the 20 somethings. This birthday can be the best one yet with a puny bit of planning.
